With AVID, our students develop the academic habits they will need to be successful in middle school, high school, and college, in an age-appropriate and challenging way. Children learn about organization, study skills, communication, and self-advocacy. AVID Elementary students take structured notes and answer and ask high-level questions that go beyond routine answers.

Binder and Planner Rubrics with 3rd-6th Graders

Binder and Planner Rubric including Content and Organization Requirements

In Mrs. Tremba and Mrs. Stecker's class, students are required to have 2-inch binders where they are expected to store ALL of each quarter's materials from class. This binder is expected to be used every day, throughout the day, and brought to and home from school. Students are also required to keep an agenda. This agenda includes day to day activities, including and not limited to school functions, after-school functions, assessment dates, etc. These organizational tools are used to prepare your child for middle and high school!

S.M.A.R.T Goals with Mrs. Stecker

%22Specific Measurable Attainable Relevant Time Based%22 SMART Goals

Each morning in Mrs. Stecker's class, student's start their day by defining and reflecting on their personal AVID SMART goals.

A SMART goal is defined as one that is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely. Students choose a goal to work on based on their individual needs. Students use self-regulation to determine whether or not they have met the academic, social, or behavioral goals they have set for themselves. Every morning students reflect, adjust or create new goals if needed, and then we share.

SMART goals allow students to not only focus on where they are strong, but where they can improve. They build self-esteem and awareness and encourage every student to feel comfortable as everyone has something to work towards.
